Good advice, to be fair there are a few mains powered supplies that come fully enclosed and ready to use (safely) but its not always clear to the customer. Easiest to stick with DC bricks for safety and there doesnt have to be any compromise on performance etc. Then use a solution with a power brick (laptop style). You can tie the bricks inside the case if that bothers you, but with these solutions you are unlikely to get it wrong. It’s more or less like building a PC.I have no DIY experience in electricity, and the more I read, the more I feel lost. I'm really afraid of messing things up badly if I do it alone.
If you don’t, the risks of getting yourself electrocuted, or worse someone else been electrocuted by your project are real.
Putting a brick inside a case is generally a bad idea as it needs airflow for cooling and if it's inside the case then you have introduced the safety challenges of routing/connecting the mains cabling. Velcro'd to the outside of a case is most I'd suggest integrating it.
