I have a 7U x 126 HP MDLR case, and to my disappointment I just discovered that the 45W power board it comes with is insufficient for the 1U row.
I only just recently started racking 1U modules in the row. I started with a low power Bear Modules Pan 1U XL, and all has been well. Today I received and racked a Laine Catena (very cool new module, by the way) and an Intellijel Noise Tools 1U, which together pull 100 mA +12V & -12V, when I noticed warning lights.
I looked up the power specs on the 45W MDLR power board by Konstant Labs, and found that the -12V rail is only 1.2A as compared to the 2A of the +12V rail.
I pulled out the Noise Tools, and everything goes back to normal, so it seems I could keep the Catena module in its place, however according to the power board specs, I am exceeding the -12V rail's capacity by something like 60mA. This makes me nervous even though everything is working.
I decided to buy a Konstant Labs 1U Power module from which I can run a flying cable for just the 1U modules, but it means I'll have to be plugging in two power cables to the MDLR case, which frankly annoys me and also costs me additional funds. I really don't understand why MDLR failed to account for the potential power requirements for the 1U row.
