Thanks for the heads up. I like the idea of keyboard/arp mode and feel like that differentiates it a bit from the K.O. II, might be more useful for my music because of that. They dont do multisampled instruments, its a pretty basic architecture but very accessible and fun, and has a really decent punchy sound…even the on board mic is decentThere are some instruments you buy because it's a genre you enjoy and you could probably find some cross over in your music. It's actually a bit weird to me that people think it's so ridiculous. How many chip tune based synths are out there? Hell, how many do teenage engineering make?
As corny as it is, I actually enjoy dungeon synth. I like dead can dance and other 80s goth bands that were constantly buying drum machines with "world" samples on them (in addition to using real folk instruments). I liked the soundtrack to the original Suspiria and bought/learned to play bouzouki because of it. This combines those kinds of sounds with lofi effects and sampling reminiscent of 80s samplers and effects (which I also love).
It's a bit hard to say how useful the instruments are on here. I still can't tell if they actually included multisamples, so that is going to factor into whether or not I keep it and the K.O. II. To me, these are cool devices that serve a special purpose, but I do turn to the K.O. II, despite owning most of the elektron range (from Machinedrum to Analog Rytm MKII), SP 404 MK2, etc. To me they are useful ways of creating ideas that will later on serve as the basis for tracks. Usually I resample them and edit what I have in my DAW.
Anyway, there is obviously something slightly funny about it. I'm sure that when elektron first introduced the SID station it was a bit funny for some people. I think that will wear off and we'll see if the idea has legs. At the very least, there are entire genres made of the kinds of sounds included on here. It's always weird the first time you see the "genre" instrument, but I think it's valid. How many people are bothered by the fact that the My Bloody Valentine sound comes from a self described "heavy metal" guitar pedal. I'm honestly excited to see where people go with it.
I get laughing at it a bit, theyre doing it themselves, but this will be a seller I bet just going by the interest Ive read online
